Inside Anna Paquin’s (Crazy-Healthy) Liquid Lunch

A liquid lunch certainly means something different to Anna Paquin than it means to us!

The True Blood star Tweeted this photo Wednesday from vegan restaurant Cafe Gratitude near Venice Beach, where she stopped to lunch with a pal.

The only time we’ve had that many glasses on a table is when they’re filled with wine, so we had to know more: Is this some kind of juice flight? What do they actually taste like? And is this the secret to wearing a skintight leather bodysuit while filming the X-Men movies? (Maybe this whole restaurant is: Beyoncé and her rocking bod stopped by Cafe Gratitude in December for a kale and seaweed salad.)

Our investigation turned up this: The glasses are individual juice shots and come in all sorts of really healthy blends we’re pretty sure L.A. folks go crazy for. As in, we’re a little skeptical of fermented kelp being in anything we drink. But, hey. Cheers!

If you’re curious about the full lineup, from left to right you see: the Enlivened, made from (gulp) blue-green algae and rosemary essential oil; Active, featuring that fermented kelp, plus pineapple juice, celery juice, cilantro, miso and chlorella; Beaming, mixing orange juice, carrot juice and three types of berries; and Brave, a combo of fresh lemon juice, cayenne pepper, turmeric, ginger root and oregano essential oil, another ingredient that we are very unsure of outside of on a steaming, cheese-laden pizza.

Could the healthy lunch be spurred by True Blood director Stephen Moyer’s affinity for nude scenes? The show’s seventh and final season kicks off soon — click here for a teaser.

Tell us: Would you try these shots?

The Latest Craze in Disco Styles Is See-Through Jeans—but Beware of Foggy Bottoms

Posted on

On a clear day, you can see forever—or at least that’s the wicked thought behind L.A. designer Agi Berliner’s transparent idea: see-through jeans. Exhibitionists notwithstanding, most folks wear them over bathing suits or as attention-getting evening wear with halters, garter belts and body stockings. Created for the disco crowd, the $34 jeans are selling like, well, hot pants. In just six weeks, 25,000 pairs have already been sold in such major department store chains as Macy’s, Bonwit’s and Saks.

“What’s limiting American designers is that we’re afraid to do something different,” says Berliner, 32, a Hungarian émigré who fled with her family to the U.S. in 1956. Agi thought up the gimmick in London while marveling at the way plastics were being employed by designers of punk fashion. In her L.A. office, where she designs for La Parisienne junior sportswear, Agi spent five days on the phone and six weeks testing to come up with the right plastic.

Agi herself tried out the French-cut jeans with the zipper in front, and quickly found several problems: Some plastics tore away from stitching, others wouldn’t bend and all fogged with perspiration. The ideal material proved to be a vinyl supplied by a bookbinder. The steam was eliminated with a series of vents behind the knees and in the crotch. “They’re no hotter than polyester pants,” claims Agi, “and if you wear them with tights, they won’t stick to your legs.”

Whatever the discomfort and despite the problem of Saturday night feverishness, discomaniacs report one major advantage of the plastic pants: no laundry bills. To keep Berliner’s see-through jeans clear, all the wearer needs is a little Windex.

She could do with a meal with more calories! She’s getting far too thin!

Looks delicious and healthy! It’s not about the calorie, it is about all of healthy superfood you put in your body. Juicing makes easier to eat a lot of superfood.

Eating this food does not liberate you from having cancer, or any other disease, on the contrary, this is as healthy as eating ashes. Your internal organs will pay the price for eating on a this super low calorie diet.

If that’s what has made her look anorexic, she might want to consider a more balanced (and healthier) diet.

What is wrong with you people saying she’s too thin?Judgmental much? Would it somehow be better if she was gorging on a big burger and fries? That’s not healthy either. And just fyi, she obviously has a plate of food in front of her… a salad, yes, but still food the last time i checked.

Meh, everyone I know who went vegan is discovering some major health problem (caused by their diet) at least a decade after starting the diet. Some of my parents friends and some of my friends did it. I’ll learn from their mistakes/

Great reporting People Magazine!! Did you even google Gratitude cafe before you wrote the article or are you just fame wh*ring over a celebrity tweet. Gratitude cafe started in Northern California. So, while the “LA folks might go crazy for” these drinks, this is not a new fad. The fact that a celebrity is an investor in the Venice location and frequented by actors seems to be your only interest. This is actually a controversial place with horrible employment practices. The two men who founded the company are followers of the new EST and has a practice of requiring managers to attend and pay for half of the $500 seminar. Legal? Guess not, cause most of their Northern California locations have closed. I know many who have gone to this establishment for the laugh factor and most never return. IMHO, having a server ask you a philosophical question before taking your order is annoying!

She should put more effort into her acting.

She is literally eating grass. Probably cost her 100.00 Celebrities do anything and at any cost to look the way they are paid to look. I have read interviews where people will not eat or drink for days before a red carpet event or shoot. Crazy crazy,

I would try the Beaming concoction without hesitation, although why not have a bowl of berries and some fresh-squeezed OJ? Brave sounds almost okay: however, as a massage therapist who uses essential oils as therapeutic applications, I wonder what “essential oils” means in terms of edibles. I sure would not want to ingest the oils I use! In general, I find these little juice shots kind of a waste of money and good food: take a multivitamin, eat more salads, less meat and processed foods, snack on fruit, and you should be “beaming” in no time.

I just want her to use some Chapstick. Gloss much?

Get a grip young ladies and gentlemen. Eat a real meal of real food and have real curves. IT’S OKAY YOU DON’T HAVE TO STARVE TO BE PRETTY, SKINNY, OR HEALTHY!!!!
