Taylor Swift Lives Our Dream & Gets a Cooking Lesson from Ina Garten

We didn’t think it would be possible to be more jealous of Taylor Swift, but now that the country singer got a private cooking lesson from Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa herself, in the TV chef’s Hamptons home, we’re officially green with envy.

As part of the Food Network Magazine’s first music issue, Swift and Garten spent the afternoon making a few of the singer’s all-time favorite recipes. They bonded over a shared love of food, and a mutual frustration with friends who don’t like to eat.

“I’ll cook for these boys, and they’ll be like, ‘I’m on a diet,'” Swift says. “I’m like, ‘I can’t hang out with you.'”

Swift is no kitchen novice. She’s shared the stove with other celebrity friends, including Kelly Osbourne, whom she hosted for a girls’ night in where they made mouth-watering chocolate peppermint cookies.

But this cooking lesson had a special significance for Swift, who calls Garten her “hero.” She owns the complete Barefoot Contessa cookbook collection. (The admiration is mutual, Garten owns all of Swift’s albums.)

Now the real question: What was on the menu? The two prepared mustard-roasted fish and a Pavlova topped with berries for dessert. Once Swift revealed she had never tried a whiskey sour — Garten’s favorite cocktail — the fun really started. Thankfully, Garten had all the ingredients to whip up a batch of the cocktails in her fridge.

The cooking lesson quickly turned into an impromptu lunch, where they were joined by the pop star’s mother, Andrea, and brother, Austin. Everyone devoured the Pavlova without bothering to wait for plates. It might not be how things are normally done in the Barefoot Contessa kitchen, but there was nothing ordinary about the day to be sure.

I wonder if Jeffrey was there? If not, I am sure she said his name at least once, like she does in every show. Yes Ina, we know you are married. BTW I am hardly jealous. Can’t stand either one of them (Ina or Taylor that is).

Selena on

Love them both! Awesome!!

I adore Taylor, loved reading this article, wish I could have been there 🙂

I remember a couple of years back their was a young boy that his Make A Wish was to meet Ina. She declined. I guess he wasn’t important enough. After it hit the media she re considered but the boy’s mom said no thank you. I haven’t watched her since.

Weebs on

Funny how she can meet up with Taylor Swift but could not free herself up for a little boy who had cancer, can’t stand her. I love the Food Network but when she comes on I turn it every time.

Guest on

I can’t stand Taylor but I do like Ina. I don’t particularly like Ina’s cooking though. She throws in way too much salt and sugar into her recipes. I guess she never heard of diabetes or high blood pressure. Ina should clean up her cooking act and start cooking healthier. She doesn’t do her fans any good if she only shows high caloric/high fat dishes. When people are going healthier she should try making her dishes healthier.

Diane on

This is an old story. Why is it being recycled?

Kaite on

Ina was going to meet with the boy who had cancer until she remembered the time she tried to teach Hansel and Gretel to cook.

@Guest: You’re an idiot! Who do you think you are to tell me or any other person to alter one’s recipes or what to eat? We all know we should eat healthy. Fat and obese people know what’s right and wrong, but they must have a choice to eat whatever they want. I am a slim woman who loves to eat and cook but most of the times I watch what I eat. I just indulge once a week because I want to be healthy, but that’s MY choice. As a food lover I would hate to see the food shows featuring low fat dishes only. Ina doesn’t have to make her dishes healthier, it’s not her job to determine what people are going to eat. People need to be smart, I know it’s difficult for some, and understand that those dishes are not to be eaten every day. They need to understand that and not expect others to change delicious and decadent recipes because they are stupid pigs who cannot decide when to indulge.

You couldn’t pay me to be in the same room with that elitist cow. She couldn’t make time for a terminally ill child, but she hops to it when it comes to hosting her snobby friends in the Hamptons.

Lisa on

I haven’t watched her show since she snubbed that little boy with cancer. There are too many other good chefs to pick from who actually care about less-fortunate people, especially children.

Livid on

Of course Ina has time to do a “cooking lesson” with Taylor Swift but doesn’t have time for a boy with cancer! Despicable.

Having worked for a celebrity as an assistant (I’m not at liberty to say their name), I can tell you that the busiest ones don’t know a quarter of the requests they get for appearances, etc. This includes chefs, too. It’s entirely possible–and plausible–that Make A Wish contacted Ina’s agent/manager/publisher and they were turned away without her ever knowing about it. I say this as someone who doesn’t care much for Ina as a person. She strikes me as phony and Hamptons-fake. But I highly doubt she’d risk her own reputation by turning down a request from a child with cancer. In all likelihood, it was never presented to her.

Not jealous – I tried Ira’s frozen foods and they are nasty!!!! Id rather have cooking lessons from Trisha Y – even Gia wouldnt be bad except its Calif based foods. Hope Tyler gets her moneys worth and cooks to her own style.

Kaite, good one!

I cannot stand that fake, obsese snob. She declined to meet with a Make A Wish patient who had cancer. She declined to cook with Jennifer Garner, stating she only cooks with and for her friends. I do not know who in the world can relate to this pig and still watch her show.

Linda on

Why would she refuse to cook with Jennifer Gardner? Isn’t she accomplished enough for her? I think Jennifer is just fabulous. She’s a great mother and a talented actress. I love Ina but I think she made a wrong call on that one.

Love love love Taylor….such a sweet gal!!!

She refused Jennifer Garner and various celebs that want to “appear” on her show. She declines but she wants to cook with her friends because that’s who she really has over for dinner and parties. Giada does the same. I like idea.

And I love Jeffrey!! He’s so cute and funny. You can see the love between them. I like when she busted him eating the ice cream!

You have a lot of knowledge on this subject. You look at this subject from far more than one view point. Your blogs are amazing. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made just right content material as you did, the web might be a lot more helpful than ever before.

Thanks for your post. What I want to point out is that when you are evaluating a good on the internet electronics retail outlet, look for a site with complete information on critical indicators such as the security statement, protection details, payment options, and various terms plus policies. Usually take time to look into the help and FAQ areas to get a better idea of how a shop works, what they can perform for you, and the way you can make best use of the features.

I don’t think Taylor knew what a jerk Ina is for not meeting with Make a Wish kid Jeffrey. Ina is a loser.

I drop a comment whenever I appreciate a post on a website or if I have something to contribute to the conversation. Usually it’s triggered by the fire displayed in the article I browsed. And on this post. I was moved enough to drop a thought 😉 I do have 2 questions for you if it’s okay. Is it only me or does it look like a few of these remarks appear like they are written by brain dead individuals? 😛 And, if you are posting on other online sites, I would like to keep up with you.
