Gordon Ramsay: I’m Done with Kitchen Nightmares

After 12 seasons of screaming at chefs, belittling their skills (or lack of) and making many cry as he tried to turn around their struggling restaurants, Gordon Ramsay is hanging up his chef’s knives on Kitchen Nightmares.

“As filming comes to a close on the latest series of Kitchen Nightmares I’ve decided to stop making the show,” the chef announced Monday on his website, gordonramsay.com. “I’ve had a phenomenal 10 years making 123 episodes, 12 seasons shot across 2 continents, watched by tens of millions of people and sold to over 150 countries. It’s been a blast but it’s time to call it a day.”

No reason was given for his decision.

Originating in 2004 in the United Kingdom, the show quickly gained a following, clocking 5.7 million viewers on the first episode alone. In 2007, it made its debut in the U.S. on the Fox network.

Ramsay credited the show with making his name. “This was the show that really propelled my TV career,” he wrote, adding “I’m very grateful for the amazing team behind the series and for the support from the viewers for almost over a decade!”

The Scottish-born chef and restaurateur has four other series on Fox: Hell’s Kitchen, Hotel Hell, MasterChef and MasterChef Junior.

Phil Esteen on

I am so glad I never wasted a minute of my life watching this guy.

George Bush on

The original UK versions were much better than his later seasons.

Now time to end the horrible “Hell’s Kitchen” show that is the same thing all the time.

Amelia on

I only watched bits and pieces of the first few shows, each time he was rude, vulgar and condescending. I know he’s a master chef, but that’s not the way to teach anyone. I for one am glad he’s done.

George Denniston on

Good RIDDANCE! Gordon Ramsey is an asshole!

Guest on

No great loss to any kitchen anywhere. He was beyond obnoxious and humiliating to people wanting to cook. As they say you get more with honey…unfortunately, he never learned how to criticize others not as meanly as he did. Gordon had anger issues and unfortunately a lot of his nastiness came across on the tv screen. Believe me he won’t be missed.

J. on

The British one was good. The American version was unwatchable.

JJ Ephraim on

Dunno why these folks are maligning Mr. Ramsey. He’s actually quite capable of the full range of emotions, and he only uses anger when it’s calculated to produce a particular result. Kitchen Nightmares certainly has its tender moments.

Jim on

Great show! It opens your eyes to the nastiness in many/most food establishments. No time wasted here.

Diane on

I love this show. I will miss it. And to everyone bad-mouthing it, if you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

JJ Ephriam -Sadly, that’s what bloggers do: Spew mean, hateful remarks. I am a fan. BBC’s KN was better (maybe because there’s just something about the English!), but USA KN was/is entertaining too. I mean there is a reason he has FIVE long running shows & all in top 10/15 TV ratings, consistently. He’s not your cup of tea? Fine. His shows are still viable.

Michaelle M Pureza on

I am actually glad he’s ending the show. I agree with the other comments; why not end all his shows?! The only lasting impression from his show is his temper and anger issues – so much negative energy. I would not eat food that was a product of such vitriol and toxic behavior. It’s like eating poison!

Heidi on

The UK version is fantastic. No quick editing, no tense music…just Ramsey the restaurant staff and the food. It is such a different show. Of course, The US completely slaughtered this great show. Too bad.

tara on

Never watched it, but love his other shows. My sister-in-law worked with him in AZ and he was very nice. His TV persona is nothing like the real Chef Ramsey.

kitty on

Noo!!!…. Ramsey I loved your show and watch it all the time….most did deserve to be humiliated and cursed out for putting people health at risk I love you and wish you the best…and your so freaking hot and love your accent …Peace and love

My favorite is MasterCHef then Hell’s Kitchen
I love Mr RaMsay’s love for teaching and cooking

suburbgrrrl on

I like the show but I don’t care for some of his language. I like how he made the announcement. No drama. “I’m just done”.

lol @ you all acting like he was fired, or forced out. He decided to stop the show, it wasn’t cancelled. Obviously he has a following. As far as you not liking how he shouts and screams at people; if you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

I watch all of his shows and hate that Kitchen Nightmares is going off. It was definitely one of my favorite shows by him. Glad we still have Masterchef and hell’s Kitchen to get my Ramsey fill.

jenniferyterry on

Those crazies from the last season finale finally broke him down.

Everyone is so rude on here. He is SO good.

Anonymous on

Everyone is so rude. LOVE all of his shows.

Lindsay on

I’m saddened by this news as I love Kitchen Nightmares, but I understand why with all of his other shows and with having a family and wanting a life outside of constant filming. I absolutely love Master Chef though and hope he doesn’t quit filming for many seasons to come. And to all those who posted just to hate on him – why do you even bother to waste your time to open the page if you don’t like him? Got anything better to do?

Tonya on

I LOVE Chef Ramsey. As a fellow Chef, I understand where he is coming from. He wants the best in the kitchen. Any true Chef would. He may be harsh, but they deserve it!! He only wants what is best for the customers. That should be expected.

Celeste on

I don’t watch Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen. I prefer MasterChef.

Graciesmom on

I think he’s great! These were people who were suppose to know what they were doing. Many were so rude to him even though they asked for his help. Show was great, will really miss it!

Linda on

I agree. Get rid of Hell’s Kitchen – what a terrible show. Ugh. I don’t mind watching Master Chef tho. And yes – Gordon Ramsay is an a hole.

Irish on

It’s okay, Gordon. We were done a long time ago, too.

melissa iris on

Noooo, I love this show!

CijiDunne on

I love Kitchen Nightmares…. and I’m probably one of the few that enjoys and respects Gordon Ramsay! His shows are great…. my husband and I watch them all… we’ll miss KN but we still have the others!

ljjf on

I for one enjoyed his “Kitchen Nightmares”

wendy on

Haha Amy’s baking company wore his ass out!

Iseeyou on

That is because only 18%-20% are still open. The show was always about Gordon Ramsey. If he really wanted to help these people, he would of said to some of these restaurants to close right away and cut your losses. Perhaps to offer financial advice of which he had access to and not air the episodes which closed a few months after taping. But in defense of the show, if you keep a restaurant as disgusting(I had to turn away at some of the filth) and vermin ridden,– never mind the out-dated decor on most of these places– as some of these restaurants and sign a release to broadcast it, you have no right and perhaps no legal right to own and operate a restaurant. Major, major health hazard and danger.

Joss on

I enjoy watching Gordon Ramsey on all of his shows and how much he tries to share his knowledge but people are ignorant and are blinded by their own stupidity to see the good he tries to do. Apparently being able to say what you want causes an uproar, but I think its great that he does. I’ll miss this show but I am happy I still have Hell’s Kitchen and Masterchef.

Tribbiani on

He ridicules chefs and restaurant owners whose kitchens, fridges and freezers produce food ranging from inedible to downright dangerous. Give me a demanding, rude badass that serves great food as opposed to a pleasant man/woman with a nice word and smile for everyone who might give me food poisoning!

Phil Esteen, you may not have “wasted a minute of your life watching this guy” but you somehow formed an opinion and took the time comment on an article about him. Rocket!
