When it comes to celebrity weddings, George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin’s might just take the cake.

So it’s only fitting that the stunning bride and groom had one gorgeous confection to celebrate their nuptials.

During the evening reception at the Aman Canal Grande in Venice, the couple’s grand, 4-tiered, square-style cake sat perched on a round table surrounded by votive candles. Designed to coordinate with the wedding’s elegant surroundings, the chocolate cake was “gold art deco to match the dining room,” Clooney tells PEOPLE exclusively in the magazine’s new issue.

In lieu of a traditional cake topper, the top tier was accented with a decorative sugar piece, also made in the classic art deco style.

With tradition being an important part of the couple’s ceremony and reception, the newlyweds jointly sliced into sugary confection in front of relatives and close friends.

“It was very emotional and lovely,” said Bono of the wedding, which he attended along with Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, Bill Murray and other close friends and family.

With all the eating and drinking that went on during the wedding weekend, let’s hope the about 100 guests saved room for dessert — because it looks like there was more than enough for seconds. Or fifths.

So it’s only fitting that the studding bride and groom had one gorgeous confection to celebrate their nuptials.
Studding?? Spellcheck, please.

“Studding”. WTF people?

It looks like moving boxes with masking tape stacked on top of each other.

Apparently, interns are doing the last of these Clooney stories.

Looks like a child’s arts and crafts project.

This is the only thing that I don’t like about their wedding. Everything else was so beautiful, romantic and classy. The cake doesn’t look Art Deco at all; and really didn’t go with the theme of the whole wedding. Hope it was yummy, though!

hopefully by december–we’ll hear of baby news from them–she is a perfect childbearing age and he isn’t getting any younger lol

Are my eyes deceiving me or is that one ugly cake?? Everything else seemed so beautiful….

DaisyMoon on

I agree with Sarafina…the cake is the only thing I didn’t like about the entire wedding…(haha! I sound like I was there, right?!)

Yes, I read this story, because I love baking and reading about cakes and other sweet treats. But I also must say that this couple seems very media-hungry. People has lots of pics and is breaking the wedding down into at least a dozen stories, Vogue covered the dress fitting, and in all of the pics that I can’t seem to avoid no matter what website I visit they’re both mugging for the paparazzi and rarely looking at each other or loved ones.

Art Decco?!?! Art Yucko!

I hope some of those tiers were decorated boxes, otherwise, what an epic waste of food for such a small group.

Ugh. Enough. Yay. He found a beard to marry him.

That’s one butt ugly cake. How embarrasing for them. But then the bride is no prize either.

Nikki on

please do not let this traitor into the US

@WJ…i also wondered if the cake was decorative stands with smaller cakes unseen by us. Because thats a heck of a lot of cake for 100 people to consume. I hope it didnt go a waste and it was sliced and handed out elsewhere.

I never concern myself by how people use what they own but seeing this and knowing darn well thwy wont eat it, just irks me for some reason.

Would have been nice if they gave some to the folks sitting outside to sneak peeks at them.

No picture of the cake is annoying but the iposters calling Amal ugly are just plain stupid. That girl is beautiful.

Microsoft announced Forza Motorsport 6: Apex last month at a media event held by the company to discuss their future plans for PC gaming. It was stated to be easy to assemble and is handy for storing suitcases. However, it should be noted that unlike the Executioner, the Poseidon’s anti-air capability is extremely weak.
