Eat, drink and get married!
This may just have been the motto for George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin’s wedding weekend. During the magical four-day celebration, the couple treated their guests to the best food and wine Venice had to offer. From separate his-and-hers parties to an elegant post-wedding brunch – not to mention a fabulous reception in between – the bride and groom made the most of the city’s dining experience.
“Venice is the most romantic city in the world,” Clooney tells PEOPLE exclusively, “and we couldn’t think of a better place to get married.”
In what could be every foodie’s dream menu, here’s a look back at the delicious dishes, amazing drinks and fun times.
Friday Night: Boys’ Night, Da Ivo
While the bride enjoyed girl time, Clooney’s small group boarded a boat to Da Ivo restaurant, a favorite spot of the groom. “George has been here very often in the past, but never have I seen him looking this happy,” owner Giovanni Da Ivo tells PEOPLE. “He could not stop laughing.” On the menu: stuffed zucchini flowers, figs and ham, razor clams, fresh tagliolini pasta with thinly sliced truffles and rice with button mushrooms, in which Clooney indulged in two servings! And to complete their boys’ night out, plenty of Casamigos tequila and a bottle of one of Italy’s best vintages, Sassicaia which Clooney signed, “Thank you another perfect night!”
Saturday Night: Wedding Reception, Aman Canal Grande Venice
For the big day, famed chef Riccardo de Pra prepared a delectable meal, which Clooney called “classic Italian.” About 100 relatives and close friends feasted on potatoes with champagne and black truffle, lemon risotto with lobster, lemon and ricotta agnolotti, Chianina beef with porcini mushroom and sea bass with fruit and vegetable ceviche. Fine wine, Alain Navarre champagne (monogrammed with the couple’s signature “AG” initials) and, of course, Casamigos tequila flowed, and for dessert: chocolate wedding cake.
Sunday Afternoon: Sunday Brunch, Hotel Cipriani
After tying the knot, the newlyweds hosted yet another festivity, brunch at Belmond Hotel Cipriani. Looking gorgeous in a Giambattista Valli Couture dress, Alamuddin and her new husband arrived at the venue at around 3:00 p.m. (giving their guest plenty of time to sleep in since the party didn’t stop until 5 a.m.!). The meal included crudités with pinzimonio, risotto primavera, baked tagliolini cipriani with ham and a selection of cakes and ice creams.
And the celebration didn’t stop there! On Sunday night, there was also a post-‘I do’ dinner at Granaries of the Republic before the couple closed out the wedding festivities with a private civil ceremony the next day.
All-in-all a perfetto weekend.
