Ryan Sweeting seems to know that when you’re married to party-thrower-extraordinaire Kaley Cuoco, you can’t just do any old thing for her birthday.

So just four months after The Big Bang Theory actress threw him a surprise party featuring mermaids and a pop-up cake, the tennis pro gathered friends and family to surprise Cuoco for her 29th birthday at Nobu Malibu.

“Kaley had no idea about the party and said it’s the first time she’d ever been surprised. Ryan had been planning the party with me since July and is a great planner, he wanted to make sure that every detail was tailored to everything she loves,” event planner Lauren Tatum tells PEOPLE exclusively.

According to Tatum, there were three themes: “pink-and-black everything, horses and Ryan loves Kaley.” Partygoers donned large “Ryan Loves Kaley” pink circular necklaces that marked them as guests, since apparently a few people from the restaurant tried to wander into the private area “a couple-ten times” writes Tatum on Instagram.

Sweeting also gave guests some homework before they came. “Ryan had a romantic and hysterical song written for Kaley [to the tune of Maroon 5’s “Payphone”] that all of the guests learned and sang to her, as a surprise,” says Tatum, who adds, “she sat in a chair and listened to her friends sing, and eventually grabbed the printed lyrics and joined in, as well. We played the song at the party a few times throughout the night and Kaley and the guests loved it,” she added.

Here’s a video that shows a line honoring the late John Ritter, who played Cuoco’s father on the show 8 Simple Rules.

The chocolate-filled cake with gold-foil stenciling by The Butter End (who also designed Cuoco’s upside-down wedding cake), was inspired by the actress’s love of horseback riding:

A Vegas-inspired showgirl from the Zen Arts entertainment company “made Kaley and Ryan part of her act,” Tatum says, adding on this photo that Cuoco “handled the surprisingly scantily clad dancer like an old pro.”

Here’s a close-up on the napkins, which mixed both the love and horseback-riding themes:

Love that all the jerks saying this wouldn’t last or he doesn’t really love her can bite it! HAHA! Happy Bday Kaley and many years of happiness to you two ❤

How sweet of him! I love her on the big bang theory but I’m not a fan of the short hair.

I love Kaley and The Big Bang Theory! I think she looks great with her short hair! She has the pretty face to carry off any style she wishes!

It all sounds perfectly sweet but if my husband hired a Vegas-inspired showgirl to entertain at my party, I’d be a little disturbed. Scantily clad women as entertainment at a straight female’s birthday party seems a little strange. Not that I’m implying anything, I’m really not, it just seems like a weird choice. But if it works for her than Happy Birthday, enjoy.

Great job! But, I’m sorry to say that he should have had a box with a beautiful outfit at the door. Kaley, you have a great body, don’t dress like an old woman. Time and kids will take a toll, show it off now while you got it!

I agree that Kaley looks good with the short hair. If you look at past episodes of the BBT, she has her hair pulled back or on top of head a lot of time and I always thought she looked good with her hair up or down. Happy Birthday, Kaley!!

@cindyann … they’ve been married 11 months. I’m not rooting against them, but 11 months is hardly what you’d consider long lasting.

She seems like such a nice person, I love love her love of animals.
I can’t say anything negative about her, just that I liked her hair long!

I think she looks so much better with the short hair! Never thought she was pretty until she chopped it off….

Aww, this looks really sweet. I think she’s such a cute young woman. I love her on Big Bang. After looking at some of the pictures from her parties, it looks like this girl leads a really fun life. I wish her many years of happiness.

I didn’t say it was Anon, I was saying that people made such rude comments when they got married, 11 months Hollywood time is already 5 years ours. I wish them the best and I am glad that people that said terrible things about how miserable etc he was can bite it, he seems to love her.

I love her ans wish her happiness always but that short hair has to go. It was nice for one day but it’s done.
