Patti Stanger made a career out of finding love — so it’s safe to say the Millionaire Matchmaker star is a bit of an expert when it comes to Valentine’s Day.

Stanger — who just launched her own wine line PS Match — has been tasked with finding love for a lot of people, including stars like Dina Lohan and Paris Hilton.

And since the romantic holiday falls on a Saturday this year, Stanger, 53, says there’s no excuse for singles to stay inside and eat their feelings. PEOPLE caught up with the reality star to get her expert guide to Valentine’s Day, no matter your relationship status.

If You’re Single:

Go out. “I always tell women get your ass out of the house. You can take a girlfriend for moral support, but the bottom line is not to fall apart,” she says. “Your first line of defense is get a great dress, show off the assets.”

Stick to wine. “Wine centers you and it mellows you out. You’re a little more clearheaded with wine than you would be with a hard alcohol — but still don’t go past my two drink maximum.”

Be open to meeting people. “Nine times out of 10, the good guys are out that night. They’ve got the confidence and they’re hunters,” she says. “So smile, flip your hair, look away for 5 seconds and he’ll come right over.”

If You’re in a Relationship:

Get him a gift. “Less is more. Pay attention to his likes and interests or get him a fragrance because you want to smell him all the time and that’s the way you’ll get intimate with him.”

Make dinner at home. “Cooking in the kitchen together can be really lovely. It’s something new and different.”

But keep the food light. “Everyone thinks you need to cook big for Valentine’s Day, but then you’re two lumps on a log and it turns into Super Bowl Sunday,” she says. “Make a list of your favorite foods and then see how to make mini versions of them.”

You really want to know how to make it through Valentines Day? Treat it like any other day and stop building future hopes, dreams and wishes on someone else making your day special. Every single day that you wake and rise with your health, strength and most of your mental faculties is a great day as far as I am concerned, anything beyond that is just gravy.

Of course people are dumb enough to take romance advice from someone, 1) not even attractive, 2) probably have never been married, and 3) how many stable relationships has she had in the last 15 years. Just like Hollyweird. I’ve been happily married for over 22 years, and we don’t even celebrate V-day. You know why? We celebrate our union daily, by loving and treating each other right. That’s how real relationships last.

Totally agree Sandra! Much better advice than the MM in the article.

this tv show encompasses everything wrong with los angeles and the wealthy in-your-facers – thank you bravo for ruining culture for everyone. never in this world has there been such a selfish, obnoxious, tacky and delusional cast of characters. american tv programming has sunk to an all time low.

That’s how you pick up a guy in a bar. So I guess she’s equating it to how to “survive Valentine’s Day.”

How on earth would she even know ????? She hasn’t even got a Valentine herself !!!!!

Let’s get over this Hallmark holiday all together. It is a consumer holiday meant to make you open your wallets. The only “love” that Valentine’s Day has anything to do with is materialistic in nature. And I’m a happily married woman with a very romantic husband saying this!

Why would anyone take relationship advice from this old, single hag?

FelicityJune on

Who the heck is this clown to give any advice at all? She is a horribly loud, obnoxious, narcissistic wannabe matchmaker, that isn’t even in a relationship. She is a loser to the core. I would never, ever take advice from a skank like that…..ewww Patty, just go away!!

Sorry Patti, but why would I take relationship advice from you?
You have never been married and you have been dating your boyfriend for more then two years now and while you are living together, there’s still no engagement ring on your finger, so you’ve broken your own rules.
Nah, think I’ll pass on any “advice” from you, but thanks for playing.

LOL I love how this woman has the stones to keep giving relationship advice when she is 53 and has never been married. She has a ‘promise ring’ from her current boyfriend… a PROMISE ring!! She’s a complete joke.

Lol this made up holiday cracks me up. If your spouse can’t show you romance, appreciation, attention the other 364 days, then why bother this one day?

Funny, but does this old hag expect us to follow her advice when she, herself can’t land a man?..at least not one that will ever marry her. She thinks her annoying antics on the show are entertaining and enjoyable when in fact, she’s so irritating to watch with her frozen Botox’d face and silly ombré hair color.
