Taco Bell Just Brought Out the Big Guns: Fritos Tacos Are Here!
Go home, other fast food chains: Taco Bell has officially won this week with the unveiling of its new Fritos Tacos.
The new menu item, stuffed with chili and wrapped in a crispy corn-Fritos shell, will launch in a few test markets this year, Business Insider reports.
“I always joke with people that the Fritos’ destiny was to be in a taco,” Taco Bell CEO Brian Niccol said.
This innovation comes alongside a slew of new offerings from the fast food chain, including the creation of its breakfast menu and — who could forget? — the life-altering Waffle Taco. In January, Conan O’Brien toured the Taco Bell headquarters and gave Conan viewers a sneak peek at some of the company’s latest ideas.
The corn chip-flavored shell is hitting menus three years after Taco Bell launched its Doritos Locos tacos — the Nacho Cheese Doritos shell is Taco Bell’s most popular menu item of all time. Did they start the trend? Doritos are now popping up in all our snack foods, from soda flavors to pizza crust.
Will this new shell also skyrocket Fritos’ popularity? Only time will tell.
