A Friends Fan Recreates Rachel’s Infamous Thanksgiving Trifle — Does it Really Taste Like Feet?

Who doesn’t love a throwback Friends moment?

Apparently one fan loves the show so much, that he was willing to recreate a not-so-delicious (yet hilarious) moment — the one where Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) makes a “traditional” English trifle for Thanksgiving.

In case you need a refresher, Rachel’s dessert — which Ross (David Schwimmer) said tasted like “feet” — consisted of a layer of ladyfingers, a layer of jam, custard (made from scratch), raspberries, more ladyfingers, beef sautéed with peas and onions, a little more custard, sliced banana and whipped cream.

Sounds gross, right? Well, that’s what Neil Killham wanted to find out.

Documenting the process on Twitter, Killham first gathered all the ingredients and then showed off the final product, which at first, didn’t look so bad.

Then came the taste test. Once cut opened, the dessert, which Rachel accidentally made from half of an English trifle and half a shepherd’s pie recipe, was an unappetizing mess.

Although Killham found a coworker brave enough to taste the trifle (from his reaction, it looked like he agreed with Ross’s assessment), it ended up “where it belongs” Killham wrote – in the trash.

Too bad Joey (Matt LeBlanc) wasn’t around, who famously said of the trifle: “What’s not to like? Custard, good. Jam, good. Meat, good!”

So glad this show is over!

This might even top Sandra Lee’s Kwanzaa cake.

(YouTube it…you’ll thank me later)

Prince George doesn’t have to be the world’s smartest baby, he is already one of the world’s cutest

I love that episode of the show, but it’s a bit disheartening that all that the food was wasted on something that anyone knows would taste terrible. Especially the fact that a lamb was killed for it to go into the trash. Ugh.

So sorry – I really don’t mean to be a troll but this actually makes me so MAD! If she had any COMMON SENSE she would have known that this wouldn’t taste great and that all the food would END UP IN THE TRASH!
Then again, I guess she knew throwing away the “trifle” would be the result all along and thought her sad little joke ACTUALLY JUSTIFIED this kind of wasteful behavior.
Ignorant, thoughtless and disrespectful is what behavior like this is called!!

I do love this episode though, especially near the end when everyone is telling their secrets lol. I can hear Rachel’s voice when she says “I wasn’t supposed to put beef in the trifle!” and poor Joey when he says “I WANT TO GO!!!” You have to see this episode to understand, but it is SO FUNNY lol. I love this show. 🙂

I loved Judy Gellar line at the end , “Joey if you want to go just go, Phoebe I’m sorry but I think Jaques Cousle is dead,Rachel no you weren’t suppose to put beef in the Trifle it did not taste good,Ross smoking, married again.” So funny.

It’s obvious that the problem was due to using lamb instead of beef. 😉

Oh, Annie, I knew there would be at least one. Look, when you compare this to the TONS of food that is wasted by the food industry every year for absolutely no good reason, this is a benign act of humor. If you are going to take a moral stand on something, pick your battles. One man wastes a handful of food for a couple laughs vs hundreds of corporations throwing away literally tons of food every day for no other reason than the work day is over. Go be angry about something that actually matters.

Those don’t look like ladyfingers, though. They look more like madelines.

In the US, we mistakenly call it “shepherd’s pie” even when it’s not lamb, which doesn’t actually make sense…shepherds herd sheep. That’s why it’s lamb. What should it be? Rancher’s pie?

Annie – seriously? First of she (a fake character) made a trifle that was actually EATEN. BY. JOEY. And the point of it was that Rachel was so dumb and ignorant of cooking, that it wouldn’t occur to her that that wasn’t correct. Not to mention – it was a TV.SHOW.

Freaking lighten up.

Cute story on

I think it was adorable that someone was willing to make the “famous friends thanksgiving dessert.” I know it seems like a waste to some people, but I can tell you that as a fan of the show myaelf, and If it had been placed infront of me, the temptation of trying it would have taken over me. Lol
Isn’t this what Thanksgiving is about? Making memories, re-creating memories, having fun and laughter? I think it was a cute story…. And I rather hear about this for thanksgiving then a baby left in a church somewhere.

I remember that episode so well and cringed when Rachel was making the trifle. Oy! Good memories from a fantastic show.

But Rachel made it with beef, not lamb. Not a fair comparison! Lol

My sister and I have made Friends gifts for each other for over 13 years. One of my first gifts to her was a trifle. I must admit it was beautiful!! It didn’t taste like feet, but it was a ton of fun watching my whole family taste it. Friends forever!!
