Truck Driver Loses 65 Lbs. By Cooking Vegan Meals on the Road

For long-haul trucker Bobby Anderson, the weight-loss journey was particularly hard.

After 21 years on the job – spending 14 hours a day, six days a week behind the wheel – the Mississippi veteran’s sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits took a toll on his waistline.

“I used to want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. And I ended up looking like Chris Farley,” Anderson told Today.

But last year the 45-year-old swapped fast food (ever-present at truck stops) for a vegan diet. It helped him shed 65 lbs. “My belly used to be right up here on the steering wheel. And now, I have room to breathe. And it’s still going down,” said Anderson.

So, how does he maintain his new size? It’s actually a foodie adventure! After cutting out Southern food staples (goodbye BBQ and hush puppies!), Anderson gave up meat, fish and dairy and starting eating more nutritious fruits and vegetables like avocados, blueberries and the occasional potato.

And that was just the beginning. Once Anderson started actually cooking plant-based foods for himself, his physical appearance changed even more dramatically. These days he uses the truck’s electrical power for a pressure cooker, waffle maker, hot plate, toaster and Nutribullet. “It’s very exciting and every day is a different flavor,” said Anderson about his meals, which include dishes like vegetable stir-fry with peanut sauce and healthy salads. “It takes all day to get ready to do this stuff, but it’s well worth it.”

In addition to improving his overall health — “I don’t take no antidepressants, anymore. No blood, no medicine at all and it’s all doctor approved,” Anderson said — his new eating habits also inspired him to start exercising and help others. He now chronicles his progress on Instagram and Facebook under the name Plant-Fueled Trucker. He has over 2,700 Instagram followers and 17,000 Facebook likes. For Anderson’s recipes, click here:

The Latest Craze in Disco Styles Is See-Through Jeans—but Beware of Foggy Bottoms

Posted on

On a clear day, you can see forever—or at least that’s the wicked thought behind L.A. designer Agi Berliner’s transparent idea: see-through jeans. Exhibitionists notwithstanding, most folks wear them over bathing suits or as attention-getting evening wear with halters, garter belts and body stockings. Created for the disco crowd, the $34 jeans are selling like, well, hot pants. In just six weeks, 25,000 pairs have already been sold in such major department store chains as Macy’s, Bonwit’s and Saks.

“What’s limiting American designers is that we’re afraid to do something different,” says Berliner, 32, a Hungarian émigré who fled with her family to the U.S. in 1956. Agi thought up the gimmick in London while marveling at the way plastics were being employed by designers of punk fashion. In her L.A. office, where she designs for La Parisienne junior sportswear, Agi spent five days on the phone and six weeks testing to come up with the right plastic.

Agi herself tried out the French-cut jeans with the zipper in front, and quickly found several problems: Some plastics tore away from stitching, others wouldn’t bend and all fogged with perspiration. The ideal material proved to be a vinyl supplied by a bookbinder. The steam was eliminated with a series of vents behind the knees and in the crotch. “They’re no hotter than polyester pants,” claims Agi, “and if you wear them with tights, they won’t stick to your legs.”

Whatever the discomfort and despite the problem of Saturday night feverishness, discomaniacs report one major advantage of the plastic pants: no laundry bills. To keep Berliner’s see-through jeans clear, all the wearer needs is a little Windex.

If you are looking to lose weight, please avoid diet pills and all those other drugs that claim to help you lose weight. I have purchased many of these in the past and never had any good results. That was when I decided to stop falling for these scams and started learning about the food that I put into my body.

I have to recommend (http://cookbookjudge.com) for anyone who wants to change their life for the better. I built the site to show everyone how my wife and I lost weight. There are many hurdles and we have provided a way for anyone to get success by avoiding the mistakes we made on our weight loss journey.

I’m a vegan and I never count calories and I have as much energy as people half my age. Eating this way not only saves animals from suffering, it saves people!

YES YES YES YES YES!!!! Good for him!!!! This is success against the longest odds (extremely sedentary job)….and his new diet is so much better for THE PLANET (too bad his job is carbon-fuelish)…eliminating meat is such a good decision. Now he need to figure out how to drive while standing, and to get aerobic exercise every day. But wow, what an inspiration. Come on AMERICA, follow this guy’s lead!!! And good luck to Anderson in getting down to BMI of 22 or so! Fat trucker, reform!!!!

Good for you dude!

Watch a few Slaughterhouse Videos or Read Fast Food Nation. That’ll keep you on track.

Vegan is the way to go. Either you love animals or you don’t.

No in-between.

Good for him!! There is no trick to weight loss. You are what you eat! So glad he has committment.

Casey on

Congrats! Well done and looking good!

Yay! You are what you eat, and he just proved it. Pay attention everyone – most of that weight loss was without exercise. So, if you followed his eating habits AND exercised, think of how fast it would come off. Congratulations!!

I’m not a vegan, but I have cut out all dairy products and have lost 35 pounds in three months. It’s amazing to feel good, feel young and look good. You definitely are what you eat, and eating well does good things for you both physically and mentally. Way to go on your weight loss. You should be so proud of yourself.

Keep on truckin’. I lost almost 100 pounds by going vegetarian and at 60, I feel fantastic. Plus, I don’t have to shut off that part of my brain that knew I was eating murder when I ate meat. Vegetarianism has been a great physical–and mental–relief to me. Plus, creative vegetarian food is delicious!

Eighteen months ago I was diagnosed w/high cholesterol and told to go on statins. I said that, first, I wanted to try a vegan diet. On a follow up visit w/the doctor two months later, my cholesterol was normal and my weight was dropping. To date, I’ve lost40+ lbs. and have never felt better!

If he spends 14 hours a day behind the wheel, how can he take all day preparing his meals?

Diane on

Certain animals were put on this earth by God to be used as food sources. It’s not murder to eat clean meat ie beef, poultry, lamb, fish, or use dairy or eggs.

Anna on

He would get the same effect if he ate a bit less of his daily burgers. I’ve lost 23lbs doing just that, with the Loaded Gun Diet.

Good for him! Now if he can figure out a way to sit fewer than four hours a day….eeeeee….why don’t they have trucks you can drive while STANDING. He has also reduced his carbon footprint, which is ironic considering what he does for a living, but hey, more power to him! What a role (not “roll”) model! funny to think of how plants grown near highways soak up the emission toxins….but he is doing the right thing, and I hope others pay attention! The world would be a really different place if no one ate beef or pork…soooo different…….

rock on! Oh and dude, it’s “complement,” not “compliment.”

what he is doing is incredibly hard to do on the road. great job, Mr. Anderson!

I’ve tried all three diets- veganism, vegetarianism, and a meat diet and I’ve always felt the healthiest with a vegan diet. Eating meat always made my energy levels decline and milk and eggs did the same but to a lesser degree. Plenty of protein can be found in so many natural vegan sources so the myth that vegans don’t get enough protein is wrong too. Keep up your good work.

Motivation to lose weight is what gets you started but it’s the mental preparation that keeps you going. You probably already know that you can accomplish anything that you set your mind for. To lose weight and keep it off what you need to do is simply learn how to set your mind for that, once your mind is set living a healthy lifestyle will become as easy and natural for you as breathing.

Anyway, I lost 19 lbs and went from a size 12 to a size 8 in 3 weeks. I followed the weight loss method described on this site http://tinyurl.com/fwe7mt I have never lost this much weight this fast.

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appearance. I must say that you’ve done a awesome job with this. In addition, the blog loads very quick for me on Safari. Superb Blog!|

Hello!

My name is Rebecca Elizabeth Webber. My husband, Thomas, and I both have chronic health issues due to poor nutrition and a great deal of stress in our youth. Over the past 2 years I have learned to treat his arthritis and ADD on my own with a holistic approach. It has been difficult, but I have learned a lot and I would really appreciate the opportunity to share what I have learned with more people. I think our nutrition plan – The Nomadic Diet – will help other people as much as it has helped us. Also, we both lost 45+ pounds.

Can you assist me in connecting with people who would like to know about a plant based, whole foods diet founded in vegan ethics and mindful collaboration with the Earth?

Here is a link to all of my work – https://goo.gl/lbY4MZ

My hope is that what I know could even help you or someone close to you!

Thank you very much for your time and energy. I look forward to speaking with you.

– Rebecca

Totem Destroyer, a cool physics based puzzle game, required number of blocks in each level without breaking the little golden statue. No, not Pixar standard yet, but Rio will more than do for now.
