Julianne Hough on Her New Lifestyle Blog: ‘It’s About What I Can Give to the World’

Acting, performing for the Move Live on Tour, and judging Dancing with the Stars have all kept Julianne Hough pretty busy this year—but working on her lifestyle blog is what she finds the most rewarding.

“Being in the world of entertainment, as selfish as it sounds, is about me and my dreams,” Hough tells PEOPLE. “But my blog is not so much about what I can take from the world but it’s about what I can give to the world. I want you guys to know my personal stuff and what little things and tricks I like.”

Those tricks span from her favorite recipes: “My stuffed peppers are so easy to make, super healthy but also super filling, which is awesome,” says the star, who recently partnered with Babybel cheese for their Big Dreamers Contest. To beauty tips: “My readers really like when I do braids and hair tutorials,” she says. “I have to do more of those.”

Healthy eating and fitness is also naturally a big topic of conversation for Hough, who spends 2 hours a day dancing for the tour with brother Derek Hough and then still finds time to get a workout in.

“I just want to eat things that are actually nutritious and nourishing for my body rather than just something that tastes good and has no nourishment,” she says.

So she finds ways to incorporate her health into her relationship with boyfriend Brooks Laich by making dinner at home a big date night.

“I love finding ways to be creative with chicken, fish and vegetables,” she says. “Cooking at home and putting music on and dancing in the kitchen—that’s like my favorite thing.”

Though there are still the occasional mishaps in the kitchen.

“There’s been a couple times I’ve tried to get the brussels sprouts to be just perfect and crispy on the outside and definitely burnt those suckers,” she says before adding, “But anything is better than what he makes himself.”

Her blog is really good.

Elaine McKinney on

She is so pretty. I like the way she is wearing her hair now.

Barbara on

I’m always skeptical about celeb blogs, but hers is pretty good. I’ve tried a couple of the tips and recipes, with good results.

Eden on

That’a good hairstyle for her.

Ken G. on

She’s my favorite dancer.

casey on

Why sis Erin Andrews still dating Jarett Stoll????

Darby on

Tell Julianne to do a hair tutorial on her blog.

Caitlyn on

Hair goals!

Bernice on

I wish she would be a pro dancer again.

Carmen on

I’ve never been able to get the crisp brussels sprouts right either. Is there a secret to getting it right? I just end up steaming them.

Dave on

She has such beautiful eyes, and a great smile. I’m not into recipes, so the blog is probably not for me.

Cindy on

She’s looking really good lately. I like the light shade of lipstick on her. I think this is the best hairstyle she has had yet. I like it better than the really long, or really short.

Dani on

I love her blog. It has achievable tips, unlike some of the celeb blogs. It doesn’t have a lot of ads either, like some blogs do.

Vivian Esposito on

Congrats Julianne on the Emmy nomination! The Elastic Heart dance was my favorite of the season.

Kelly H. on

She’s a gorgeous girl, but I hate brussels sprouts. Lol

Ashley on

Hair tutorial please.

Candace on

I tried her stuffed peppers recipe, and the black bean burger one. The peppers were good, but the burgers were great! I’m always looking for meat alternatives. I’m glad she said she was going to do more hair tutorials. She should do podcasts.

“what I can give to the world…..” how about a tamed ego. That would be a start.

Nancy on

I Love what she did for Cleopatra this week. Such a sweetheart.

Fran Ellis on

I met her at the meet and great for the St. Louis show. She was so nice and gave good advice to my little sister about following a dance career.

Emily on

Very pretty girl.

Kate on

Will you be dancing on the show this season?

Greta on

I would like a blog post on safe cleaning products to use. There are so many chemicals in everything.

Ava on

Love Babybel and what they do.

The black bean burgers were better than I expected. I would like to see more sugar free dessert ideas.

Dan on

Could someone do a blog on how to get the Red Sox out of last place?

Sandi on

LOL Dan. They should have known Panda wouldn’t help them out. The Giants are doing just fine without him. Matt Duffy for Rookie of the Year!!

Morgan on

She’s my favorite dancer.

Diana on

She should do interviews on her blog. My requests would be Josh Duhamel, Spencer Barnes, and the trainer Astrid.

Belle on

Is there anything that works to get oil stains out of clothes? None of the products I have tried have worked.

Vivan on

I won’t eat chicken. There is too much junk in it. I don’t like brussels sprouts, but the stuffed peppers sound ok.

Marcy on

I liked her pink hair.

Kacie on

Podcasts are the way to go.

Vaerie on

I like her blog because she doesn’t have ads all over. I quit reading a couple of other blogs because they were almost all ads, and not much info. I would like to see videos on her blog. I don’t think she has done any yet. Yes to hair tutorials, and decorating advice.

Donna on

At least she doesn’t suggest $1000 blenders like Goop.

Helen on

Her blog is one of the better ones that I have read, and is much better than the useless romance novels people read.

Victor on

Is Jarrett Stoll going to jail?

Vox on

Could she ask Tom Cruise why he acts so strange, and why he looks different.

I wish they could do a sequel to Safe Haven. It’s one of my favorite movies.

Kate on

I love her hairstyle. I tried to do mine like that using a styling wand, but it didn’t look good like hers does.

Allison on

I love her, and I like her blog. She should do a post or podcast about cyber-bullies like some of the commenters on the People website.

Cecily on

I’d like to see a blog post about something I have been hearing on the subject of how bitterness can bring on rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.

Why are Derek Hough’s fans so mean to everybody?

She is such a beautiful and electrifying dancer.

Georgia on

She has one of the best blogs because the recipes and tips are the type that are realistic to try.

Erin Andrews took out her hair extensions, and it looks nice.

Someone should do a study on why Dancing With the Stars, and So You Think You Can Dance, have the meanest fan bases of any TV shows.

If she’s so healthy, does she still smoke?

sam on

i think her hairstylist butchered her. this girl is stunning with long hair. she will get her whole career back on track when she lightens those brows and grows out those golden locks. it’s a rarity to have such a beautiful face.

Aaron on

She’s a beautiful girl and my favorite dancer.

Aaron on

People Magazine: How come you are not doing an article about Ryan’s show being cancelled after only two episodes? First of all, to call a show Knock Knock, and then ring the doorbell is just ridiculous. Secondly, never forget he caused the Kardashian horror we are all living through.

Rhonda on

Her dance show was great this summer. I wish she would dance on the show again.

Crystal G. on

The blog is really good.

Gail Bowman on

I love her hair like this! I hope she keeps this style.

Brett I. on

I despise her boyfriend.
