Starbucks Announces Huge Changes to Its Classic Pumpkin Spice Latte

We thought we had the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte all figured out.

Yet the iconic — and deeply polarizing — fall-time beverage is about to reinvent itself: Starbucks is adding real pumpkin to the lattes. That’s right — real, actual pumpkin purée will be added to the lattes, and caramel coloring will be removed. (Don’t quote us on this, but we’re pretty sure this is the first time squash has ever been served in a coffee beverage.)

“We have been trying to keep a lid on some big news for the beloved Pumpkin Spice Latte, but with recipes and ingredients starting to ship to our stores, the buzz is building. What’s the big deal? After hearing from customers and partners about ingredients, we took another look at this beverage …” reads Starbucks’ Monday announcement of the big news.

Debuting this fall, the revamped lattes will include the following ingredients: espresso, milk, pumpkin spice flavored sauce (which now includes pumpkin purée), whipped cream, vanilla syrup and pumpkin spice topping.

Our prediction? By 2020, Pumpkin Spice Lattes will just be pumpkin pie shoved into a cup and topped with espresso. Which actually sounds pretty delicious.

The Latest Craze in Disco Styles Is See-Through Jeans—but Beware of Foggy Bottoms

Posted on

On a clear day, you can see forever—or at least that’s the wicked thought behind L.A. designer Agi Berliner’s transparent idea: see-through jeans. Exhibitionists notwithstanding, most folks wear them over bathing suits or as attention-getting evening wear with halters, garter belts and body stockings. Created for the disco crowd, the $34 jeans are selling like, well, hot pants. In just six weeks, 25,000 pairs have already been sold in such major department store chains as Macy’s, Bonwit’s and Saks.

“What’s limiting American designers is that we’re afraid to do something different,” says Berliner, 32, a Hungarian émigré who fled with her family to the U.S. in 1956. Agi thought up the gimmick in London while marveling at the way plastics were being employed by designers of punk fashion. In her L.A. office, where she designs for La Parisienne junior sportswear, Agi spent five days on the phone and six weeks testing to come up with the right plastic.

Agi herself tried out the French-cut jeans with the zipper in front, and quickly found several problems: Some plastics tore away from stitching, others wouldn’t bend and all fogged with perspiration. The ideal material proved to be a vinyl supplied by a bookbinder. The steam was eliminated with a series of vents behind the knees and in the crotch. “They’re no hotter than polyester pants,” claims Agi, “and if you wear them with tights, they won’t stick to your legs.”

Whatever the discomfort and despite the problem of Saturday night feverishness, discomaniacs report one major advantage of the plastic pants: no laundry bills. To keep Berliner’s see-through jeans clear, all the wearer needs is a little Windex.

This is not the first time a coffee shop has used real pumpkin. A lot of local, smaller name coffee shops use real pumpkin. It’s still exciting that Starbucks is following suit though.

If Starbucks can make this change to their pumpkin lattes why on earth CAN’T they make a SUGAR FREE version of this drink?

Guest on

I don’t even want a “sugar-free” version because then it will have “fake” sugar in it which sucks, too. Just give me one with out any sweetener!!! If you want it sweet, add it yourself. C’mon, Starbucks! Has anyone else read the sugar content in ANY of their drinks???? It’s astronomical. Pull back on the sweetness, Starbucks.

You know what would be even better than real pumpkin….not charging $5 for one mediocre cup of coffee!

Only time of year I will actually buy from Starbucks is for this! Yes, I’m cheap!

T here’s way too much sugar in their specialty beverages., not to mention that whipped cream, oh come on. These drinks are a caloric nightmare at least 400 calories or more per cup.

It’ll still taste like mud.

Caribou Coffee (chain based out of Minneapolis) has been using a real pumpkin purée in their fall specialty drinks for years.

My question is this – Is that pumpkin spice flavored sauce gluten free?? Starbucks was not very forth coming when they changed their frappuccino mix several years ago whether or not the new mix had gluten in it. It was months before anyone knew for sure.

Nugget Markets in Sacramento, California has been using actual pumpkin pie mix in their drinks for YEARS!!

I was hoping they were going to make a dairy free version. Too bad😦

If only they would also make one using sugar free vanilla syrup…that would be perfect.

I didn’t even know Starbucks was still around – of course I see there coffees on store shelves and in those Kurig things. Ever since I found LaVazza I haven’t touched the stuff.

“Don’t quote us on this, but we’re pretty sure this is the first time squash has ever been served in a coffee beverage.” NOPE! Not at all. Indie coffee shops have been doing this for years. =)

Starbucks is actually borrowing that concept from Hubbard &Cravens Coffee in Indianapolis. A mixture using actual pumpkin mix from the can is used in the local coffee company’s Spiced Pumpkin Pie Latte. It has continually been the more popular version in the city, including press coverage of the higher quality ingredients behind it. Not the first time they have taken an idea from Hubbard & Cravens and ran with it….

Hahahaha ur so funny! A local place put real pumpkin puree in their pumpkin spice drinks one year. The grossest thing ever, the fibers don’t dissolve or blend out. Yea that was nasty.

However you do not ought to stick with tradition once selecting a sculpture for your own garden. Now you’ve reached the point where you have to complete a Kanto sidequest unique to Pokemon Heart Gold, Soul Silver, and the original Gold, Silver, and Crystal. However, it should be noted that unlike the Executioner, the Poseidon’s anti-air capability is extremely weak.
