Half Their Size’s Eve Guzman: ‘I Still Have Excess Skin, and Things Still Jiggle’

Eve Guzman was featured in PEOPLE’s 2015 Half Their Size Issue after going from 277 lbs. to 138 lbs. by dramatically decreasing her portion sizes and sticking to a high protein, low-fat, moderate carb diet. Since her weight loss, the genetic toxicology research assistant and mom of two, 33, has coached people all over the country on how to lose weight, helping them drop a combined 2,950 lbs. In the next phase of her journey, Guzman is preparing to compete in a figure competition, and will be sharing her preparation in an exclusive PEOPLE blog. You can also follow her on Instagram.

I’m officially eight weeks out and the pressure is on. The mental battle of this prep has been unreal. I knew it was going to be hard, but it’s a lot harder than I prepared for it to be. I will spend the last weeks before my stage debut fine-tuning my diet and working even harder in the gym.

My current week’s workouts look like this:

Monday: Back, hamstrings and abs

Tuesday: HIIT and abs

Wednesday: Chest and shoulders

Thursday: Legs, glutes, hamstrings and abs

Friday: HIIT and abs

Saturday: Biceps and triceps

Sunday: Rest

I am working on defining and hardening my upper body while blasting fat off my lower body to reveal the muscle underneath. I am inching closer to 10 percent body fat.

I work out six days a week, and have added high-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions to my regimen. My favorite workout moves are Romanian dead lifts, sumo deadlifts, squats, weighted donkey kicks, shoulder presses and lat pull downs. For my HIIT routines I enjoy doing the StairMaster and sprinting on the treadmill.

My new levels of strength and endurance have surprised me. I can truly admit that I have become an athlete – a crown I am proud to wear.

Last summer was the first summer I had ever worn a bikini as an adult. The last bikini I wore before that was orange with white polka dots, and I was 5 years old. I worked hard, held my head up high and wore three bikinis last year. I will have to do the same soon, but I will be wearing a figure competition suit that is designed to show all the progress I have made.

Losing half your body weight does not mean you become perfect under your clothes. People don’t know that I have stretch marks, cellulite on my butt and thighs, and a scar from the abdominoplasty I had last year to remove 2 lbs. of excess skin from the extreme weight loss. I used to be able hold the excess skin on my stomach in my hands.

I can see my abs peaking through, something I never thought was a possibility for me. There used to be a time where I just hoped to be able to see my feet.

I still have excess skin on my thighs, and things still jiggle. That’s what happens when you go from a size 24 to size 4. I have now lost 147 lbs. off of my 5’1″ frame. Flaws and all I will be strutting my stuff across the stage.

The Latest Craze in Disco Styles Is See-Through Jeans—but Beware of Foggy Bottoms

Posted on

On a clear day, you can see forever—or at least that’s the wicked thought behind L.A. designer Agi Berliner’s transparent idea: see-through jeans. Exhibitionists notwithstanding, most folks wear them over bathing suits or as attention-getting evening wear with halters, garter belts and body stockings. Created for the disco crowd, the $34 jeans are selling like, well, hot pants. In just six weeks, 25,000 pairs have already been sold in such major department store chains as Macy’s, Bonwit’s and Saks.

“What’s limiting American designers is that we’re afraid to do something different,” says Berliner, 32, a Hungarian émigré who fled with her family to the U.S. in 1956. Agi thought up the gimmick in London while marveling at the way plastics were being employed by designers of punk fashion. In her L.A. office, where she designs for La Parisienne junior sportswear, Agi spent five days on the phone and six weeks testing to come up with the right plastic.

Agi herself tried out the French-cut jeans with the zipper in front, and quickly found several problems: Some plastics tore away from stitching, others wouldn’t bend and all fogged with perspiration. The ideal material proved to be a vinyl supplied by a bookbinder. The steam was eliminated with a series of vents behind the knees and in the crotch. “They’re no hotter than polyester pants,” claims Agi, “and if you wear them with tights, they won’t stick to your legs.”

Whatever the discomfort and despite the problem of Saturday night feverishness, discomaniacs report one major advantage of the plastic pants: no laundry bills. To keep Berliner’s see-through jeans clear, all the wearer needs is a little Windex.

Wow, what an accomplishment, to to take charge of your well being in such a determined and powerful way! I hope you do well in your competition Eve, but in my book you are already a winner! Congrats!

That’s a huge accomplishment. One note though, I don’t believe someone who is 5’1 and 138lbs. is a size 4. I’m 5’2 and when I was 104lbs. I was a size 4. Just saying. I think they embellish a little bit.

Remember, muscle weight isn’t the same as fat weight. She’s building muscle which is going to increase her weight yet she’ll be lean and fitting into a smaller size. My friend and I are the same height and weight but she’s almost got a 6 pack and I have a fluffy pudge going on. Not fair, lol!! But she’s got a lot more muscle tone than me, so it makes perfect sense.

To Tina, not everyone’s weight and body type looks or measures the same. Just saying.

Remember, muscle weight and fat weight do not look the same. She’s prepping for a muscle competition and she’s putting on lean muscle weight. My friend and I are the same height and weight but she’s got a nice flat tummy while I have this fluffy pudge… not fair, lol!! But it makes sense because my friend is training right now and that’s how it works!

Oops, commented twice! I didn’t realize the 1st one went through🙂

Tina, I think you’re missing the point sweetheart. As said before, every body is different. What use or sense would it make for someone to embellish their clothing size and more importantly, why must that ONE piece of info be the one you choose to zoom in on? How about we congratulate, support and applaud a woman who has made a complete life-180 and who is inspiring so many to make a similar journey? The world is full of negativity, why add to it? Thank you for sharing your opinion and thank you also for being sure to ask yourself next time (before trolling on someone’s success) if what you’re saying is positive and encouraging.
Way to go Mrs. Guzman!

I was pretty sad when I got to the Namco Bandai booth however and found out they only brought their fighting games to be played there, which I didn’t bother to try. The PC offers come with a variety of deals that includes recent releases ranging from ‘Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’ to ‘Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor’ to ‘The Evil Within. 3) Desert to Sea Bundle (Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Spec – Ops The Line).
