Sofia Vergara’s Top 5 Tips for Making the Most of Gym Time

Just like any of us, Sofia Vergara sometimes struggles when it comes to motivating herself to exercise, so she tries to make her workouts as efficient as possible.

“I’m the first to admit that I hate wasting time in the gym – I’m not one of those people who spends hours on the treadmill or takes three spin classes a day,” the Modern Family star, 43, tells PEOPLE. “When you work out smarter (and of course, eat healthy!), you’ll love the way you look and feel, and get the most out of your sweat sessions.”

Vergara, who is a supporter of Thrive Market, is sharing her five best tips to keep herself motivated, and make her workouts more fun and effective:

1. Sip coffee on the way to the gym
“Who doesn’t love starting the day with a delicious Colombian roast? Sure, it’s tasty, but it has so many benefits, too! It’ll wake you up and get you energized for your workout, and it’s been proven that drinking coffee (caffeinated, of course) helps your body burn more fat during exercise. Every little bit helps, right?”

2. Get a workout buddy
“When you’re feeling less than motivated to get to the gym, enlisting a friend to come along just might be the inspiration you need. A workout buddy will hold you accountable (no more sleeping through those early morning Pilates classes!), and it’s always more fun to try new things when you have someone who can laugh through the experience with you. Getting sweaty with your significant other does the trick, too – it’s a really great way to spend time together, and you might even impress them with your squat skills. By the end of your workout, you’ll have had some bonding time and gotten a great sweat session in.”

3. Don’t be scared to lift weights
“Speaking of squats, ladies, don’t be afraid to lift weights. It won’t make you bulky, so get that out of your head! Actually, using heavier weights will accentuate all your curves. Toning the shoulders makes your waist look smaller, weighted squats lift and tone your booty, and adding a kettlebell to your ab routine will give you a stronger, flatter midsection – fast! Plus, when you lift a little heavier, you don’t have to do as many reps to see results. That means you don’t need to spend as much time in the gym… and that makes me very happy!”

4. Ditch the treadmill for something you love
“Treadmills and ellipticals get boring fast. And if you’re dreading your cardio time, suddenly 20 minutes feels like two hours – no thanks. I love finding creative new ways to get my heart rate up that don’t involve running or spinning. Dance cardio classes are my current obsession, because there’s nothing better than turning up the music and just letting everything go. But really, making cardio easier to knock out is more about finding something you really love. Whether it’s surfing, biking or jumping on trampolines, do something you enjoy. When you have fun during workouts, it’s a lot easier to commit to doing them – and they don’t feel like work.”

5. Treat yourself afterward
“My favorite part of my workout is when it’s finally over! It’s tempting to go eat something that’s a little unhealthy as a reward, but instead of undoing all my hard work, I treat myself to a satisfying, healthy snack. My go-to post-workout smoothie has chocolate protein powder, almond butter, coconut water and goji berries on top – it tastes like chocolate ice cream, but has none of the guilt!”

The Latest Craze in Disco Styles Is See-Through Jeans—but Beware of Foggy Bottoms

On a clear day, you can see forever—or at least that’s the wicked thought behind L.A. designer Agi Berliner’s transparent idea: see-through jeans. Exhibitionists notwithstanding, most folks wear them over bathing suits or as attention-getting evening wear with halters, garter belts and body stockings. Created for the disco crowd, the $34 jeans are selling like, well, hot pants. In just six weeks, 25,000 pairs have already been sold in such major department store chains as Macy’s, Bonwit’s and Saks.

“What’s limiting American designers is that we’re afraid to do something different,” says Berliner, 32, a Hungarian émigré who fled with her family to the U.S. in 1956. Agi thought up the gimmick in London while marveling at the way plastics were being employed by designers of punk fashion. In her L.A. office, where she designs for La Parisienne junior sportswear, Agi spent five days on the phone and six weeks testing to come up with the right plastic.

Agi herself tried out the French-cut jeans with the zipper in front, and quickly found several problems: Some plastics tore away from stitching, others wouldn’t bend and all fogged with perspiration. The ideal material proved to be a vinyl supplied by a bookbinder. The steam was eliminated with a series of vents behind the knees and in the crotch. “They’re no hotter than polyester pants,” claims Agi, “and if you wear them with tights, they won’t stick to your legs.”

Whatever the discomfort and despite the problem of Saturday night feverishness, discomaniacs report one major advantage of the plastic pants: no laundry bills. To keep Berliner’s see-through jeans clear, all the wearer needs is a little Windex.

I have to laugh! She used to NEVER workout until she started dating JM and now she’s an expert. She ate cake all day! She used to brag about it and the fact that she never gained weight!!! Hey Sofia – shut up!!

The way I see it, the gaming scene pretty much divides into PC gaming and console gaming. When it comes to capabilities to appear out for, there needs to be the alternative to switch among aircrafts, adjust weather, wind and environment, and decide on the country you wish to fly in. There are plenty of real-time and turn-based strategy games, but few transpire in far-off galaxies and star systems.
